An intensive one day course that aims at promoting the awareness and the knowledge of Copernicus services and geospatial data products with Environmental Data Modeling and Geo computation.
Copernicus is a European Union Programme aimed at developing European free and open information services based on satellite Earth Observation and in situ (non-space) data to help service providers, public authorities and other international organizations improve the quality of life for the citizens of Europe.
In the domain of agriculture, EU policies aim to foster the development of practices that preserve the environment and sustain productivity. Copernicus, in particular, helps to assess agricultural land uses, change detections and their impacts on biodiversity and landscapes so to help public authorities and farmers improve farm management and policies by monitoring agricultural pressures on natural resources.
Through the presentation of case studies, real experiences and web tools, participants from public and private sectors can learn how to use these innovative approaches and take advance so to develop successful sustainable business. This course, in particular, wants to provide knowledge and insight to explore sustainable agriculture challenges, by using earth observation added-value data coming from Sentinel satellites and Copernicus Services.
The course is preceded by a launching webinar helping the participants familiarize with the Copernicus key concepts. The course is officially co-organized with the Copernicus Academy Italian member Studiomapp srl (www.studiomapp.com) and ASTER (www.aster.it) and it is led by Marco Folegani, Managing Director of the Italian private company MEEO S.r.l (www.meeo.it), partner of the European Space Agency (ESA).
Participants will improve their knowledge on systemic approaches in using Copernicus satellite data and monitoring services in combination with some open source tools for image and data process, to support innovation in sustainable agri-business by:
- Understanding what Sentinel satellites and Copernicus Services are, why they are important and how they relate to the green and climate challenges;
- Using key approaches and tools for designing new analytics models or reconfiguring existing ones based on earth observation;
- Implementing sustainability-oriented methodologies to address climate challenges in agriculture activities
Who can join?
The course addresses agricultural users in decision making at many different levels: from farmers to large corporate managers, from Agronomists/Technicians consultants to governmental officers dealing with Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and rural development, from Agri-business economist/experts to Insurance brokers.
Fees and applications
Fee of the whole course: 400€. A 50% discount on the regular fee is available for below groups: Employees of public bodies, Climate-KIC partners (both core and affiliate partners), Employees of NGOs and Climate-KIC Alumni. Grant applications are possible for citizens of the following countries: Cyprus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia. Participation can be cancelled free of charge until 4 weeks before the course. Already paid fees will be reimbursed. 50% of course fees are payable in case of cancellation between four and one week before the course. Already paid fees will be reimbursed accordingly. Full fees apply after cancellation of less than one week before the course.
